Obsessed: After getting an apprenticeship, Megan dedicated everyday for a year to practicing, even though she received criticism from women about her tattoos every time she left the house 

Passionate: Megan’s journey towards becoming a tattoo artist began with dedication and perseverance. Despite facing criticism for her tattoos, she spent an entire year practicing diligently after securing an apprenticeship. “After I graduated, I was stuck in a job that made me miserable, and it wasn’t what I truly wanted to do,” Megan shared with Daily Mail Australia.
One fateful night, a co-worker needed a ride to a tattoo parlour, and that visit changed Megan’s life forever. Impressed by her drawing skills, the artists there offered her the opportunity to try her hand at creating tattoo designs. “I used to draw all the time because my job was so dull, and my co-worker recognized my talent,” Megan explained.
The artists were impressed by her work, and that night, Megan experienced her very first tattoo session and was offered an apprenticeship on the spot.

Megan is renowned for her authentic tattoo designs and skill in transforming old tattoos. She embarked on her tattooing journey by leaving her job and college, dedicating a year to tattooing each day without a break. This led her to develop a deep passion for the art and its creative possibilities.

Over the past 12 years, Megan has witnessed significant growth in the tattoo industry and has established herself with her unique designs and bold statements in ink. Initially facing skepticism and judgment for being a female tattoo artist, Megan persevered and proved her critics wrong.

“When I first started, people didn’t see me as cool, they thought I was odd, especially since I was a woman,” Megan recalled. “My friends thought I was strange, and strangers would warn me about the consequences of my tattoos in the future.”

Fortunately, perceptions of tattoos have evolved considerably since then.

With a massive following of over 700,000 on Instagram and two million on Facebook, Megan has established herself as a prominent figure in the tattoo industry. She describes her tattoo style as constantly evolving, drawing inspiration from various sources, especially vibrant colors and unique combinations of different styles.

'Australians have cooler ideas': Megan says she has done 'cooler' tattoos in Australia than in New York 

According to Megan, she has had the opportunity to create more unique tattoos in Australia compared to New York. She particularly enjoys working on portraits and realistic designs of people or animals, incorporating traditional 2D elements.

Having tattooed clients from various countries, Megan has noticed that preferences vary depending on the location. She believes that Australians have a more offbeat and distinctive approach to tattoo ideas, which she finds exciting and refreshing.

In Megan’s experience, the creativity and originality of tattoo designs in Australia surpass those in New York, reflecting the adventurous spirit of Australians.

“I may seem occupied,” Megan explains, detailing her affinity for black clothing as a perfect complement to her vibrant hair, makeup, and tattoos that bring a splash of color to her look.
